The Coalition released a pre-release patch for Gears of War: E-Day on October 5th to stabilize the game before launch. This update targets core stability, performance, and hardware compatibility issues that could disrupt the player experience. Players joining multiplayer sessions or campaign missions will see immediate fixes for matchmaking hangs and synchronization errors. The patch ensures that online services and local split-screen modes function correctly when system clocks differ or when players suspend the game.
Pre-launch stability update resolves matchmaking hangs and authentication glitches
This update addresses specific technical failures across all major game modes, including the campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus multiplayer. The developers fixed an issue where Versus Social matches would get stuck on the waiting screen, a problem that prevented players from starting games. Xbox authentication handling now works correctly even when the console system clock is significantly out of sync with the correct time. Split-screen players will no longer be unexpectedly signed out after suspending and resuming the game, a glitch previously reported as the "Bilefrog-Kalona" error.
Campaign players joining an existing mission will no longer receive War Journal progress or Forge rewards earned before they joined. The update resolves a glitch where players remained attached to turrets during cinematic or gameplay moments, which could block movement. Specific mission objectives in Acts 2 and 4 now update correctly, including issues with the Heavy Gear appearing without a Vulcan and side objectives failing to start. The Power Station defense objective in Act 4 Chapter 2 will complete properly after all visible enemies are defeated, fixing a previous cause of objective failure.
Horde Siege mode fixes include resolving issues that prevented Siege Blitz Secure objectives from completing and fixing extraction helicopter spawning in Plaza Ruins Blitz. Versus Demolition mode no longer allows bombs to get stuck in a defusing state if the player is eliminated during the interaction. The user interface now displays Online Diagnostic text with adjusted sizing and appearance. The patch also stops a loop where the UI repeatedly attempted to claim the same Challenge Mail reward, ensuring players receive their intended rewards correctly.
