The project is produced by CloverWorks and curated by Atsushi Nishigori, who previously worked on Darling in the Franxx. GROTESQQQUE consists of three standalone films: AE LIENS, Yoroshiku Girl, and NOCTURN. Each segment features a unique premise, ranging from alien diplomacy to post-apocalyptic vampire tales. This structure allows viewers to experience varied storytelling styles in a single theatrical run.
AE LIENS is directed by Nishigori and centers on an alien ambassador. Yoroshiku Girl is helmed by Takahiro Miura, known for Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, and features gyaru characters. NOCTURN, also directed by Nishigori, depicts a vampire in a post-apocalyptic setting. The film recently premiered at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal, showcasing the final product to an international audience.
A special screening of GROTESQQQUE is scheduled for October 8 at the Japan Society in New York. Atsushi Nishigori will be present for this event, offering fans a chance to see the film early. The Japanese theatrical release is confirmed for November 6. International release dates remain unknown at this time.
