PC players of Helldivers 2 now have the option to experience the game from a first-person perspective, a shift that fundamentally alters the traditional third-person tactical shooter format. The mod replaces the standard over-the-shoulder perspective with a first-person view, allowing players to experience the game from a soldier's eyes or inside a vehicle cockpit. This modification provides an alternative gameplay perspective for existing players, accessible through a community-created tool rather than an official developer release.
Community tool transforms tactical shooter into first-person experience
The modification is developed for the PC version of Helldivers 2, published by Arrowhead Game Studios. It enables first-person view while on foot, inside the EXO-45 mech, and while driving the FRV vehicle. The mod supports first-person perspective across various gameplay scenarios, including on foot, inside mechs, and while driving vehicles.
The mod introduces extensive camera customization options, allowing users to adjust the field of view, aim view, and mech camera positioning to suit their preferences. Aiming mechanics remain largely unchanged from the original game, though an optional crosshair-linking feature is included to create a more natural feel for first-person shooters. The developers of the mod have also fixed diving detection issues and smoothed out aim zoom transitions to reduce visual stutter during combat.
Users should be aware that the mod is not bug-free and may require switching to third-person for certain terminals. Some weapon models may still obstruct part of the view because their size and position are not always optimized for first-person play. The modder is actively working on improving some game actions to address these limitations. The modification is available for download via Nexus Mods.
