PC gamers who grew up with the Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 now have a new way to experience the title. Joshua-1248 has released a significant update to their GoldenEye 007 Plus project that finally adds a third-person camera mode. The update allows players to experience the classic Nintendo 64 title in a third-person perspective while retaining the original level layouts. Players can now approach familiar missions with a completely different perspective.
New patch enables third-person perspective for the classic Nintendo 64 shooter
The patch introduces a third-person camera mode that alters the visual perspective of the player character and surroundings. The developer has reworked the camera system to allow for third-person play, which requires adjustments to how weapons and aiming work. The modification includes functional adjustments such as adjustable crosshairs and camera-aligned weapon projectiles to improve aiming. The project remains a PC-based modification that requires users to provide their own game assets.
Additional features include sight translucency to aid manual aiming and fixes for specific bugs in the Surface II cutscene and Dam ending. Projectiles, beams, and tracers are now lined up with the camera rather than the character model, which improves targeting consistency. The Moonraker Laser also receives special support for third-person play, allowing players to utilize this iconic weapon effectively from behind the shoulder. Users can adjust crosshair settings to suit their preferences and benefit from added sight translucency to see through the aiming view.
The update also addresses stability issues that plagued previous versions of the mod. The developer fixed a crash that occurred during the Surface II cutscene, ensuring players can progress through that mission without interruption. Additionally, the camera behavior at the end of the Dam level has been corrected to prevent visual glitches. The project continues to support up to four players in campaign co-op, maintaining its social functionality alongside these technical fixes.
Users interested in trying the new third-person mode can download the latest version from the official GitHub repository. The project is based on decompiled source code, which means it operates in a legal gray area regarding ROM distribution. Players must supply their own GoldenEye 007 ROM file as the mod does not include any copyrighted assets. The release supports up to four players in campaign co-op and is available for download from the developer's GitHub repository.
