AYN has announced upcoming pre-order batches for its Thor and Odin 3 handheld gaming devices. Batch 6 of Thor and Batch 7 of Odin 3 will open soon, according to the company. Alongside the new batches, AYN confirmed a storage downgrade for both devices.
Storage downgrade affects both devices
Both the Thor and Odin 3 will now ship with UFS 3.1 storage instead of the previously planned UFS 4.0. UFS 3.1 offers sequential read speeds up to 2100 MB/s and write speeds up to 1200 MB/s. In comparison, UFS 4.0 reaches up to 4200 MB/s read and 2800 MB/s write, and is up to 46% more power efficient. AYN stated it is making a "transition to UFS 3.1 moving forward."
Pricing for most Thor models remains unchanged. The Thor Lite (8GB/128GB) stays at 249 USD (about $249). The Thor Base (8GB/128GB) remains at 319 USD (about $319). The Thor Pro (12GB/256GB) is still 399 USD (about $399). However, the Thor Max 16GB/1TB model has increased to 549 USD (about $549). AYN also introduced a new Thor Max 16GB/512GB SKU priced at 469 USD (about $469). The company said it will "maintain the existing pricing for Thor Base and Pro models."
The storage change affects both the Thor and Odin 3 lines. AYN has not detailed the reason for the switch from UFS 4.0 to UFS 3.1. The company has not confirmed the exact launch date for the new pre-order batches.
