Capcom is expanding the Resident Evil franchise by developing new remakes while simultaneously advancing its main numbered entries. This dual-track strategy ensures that players can experience both the ongoing saga and the studio’s reimaginings of classic titles. We follow this closely because it defines the future roadmap for one of gaming’s most enduring horror series.
Capcom confirms Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica remakes are in development
Executive producer Jun Takeuchi confirmed that the development team is preparing for the moment when the remake series catches up to the current numbered titles. The studio began this strategic preparation around the release of Resident Evil Village. This alignment allows the franchise to bridge its legacy content with modern storytelling without losing momentum.

Takeuchi stated in an interview with RERenews: “The current ‘Resident Evil’ series is being developed along two tracks: the numbered titles allow players to experience the ongoing story of the series, while the remake series allows them to experience the past. Someday, the remake series will catch up with the era of the numbered titles, and we are already thinking about what we will do when that happens.” This direct quote outlines the core philosophy driving the studio’s current output.
Unannounced remakes for Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil Code Veronica are currently in development. Elements such as Umbrella, Spencer, and Raccoon City in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem are part of this preparation. We have previously covered how Capcom is bringing Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes to the Switch 2, showing the franchise’s broad platform strategy.
The studio is actively managing two distinct development paths to sustain the Resident Evil brand. Numbered titles continue the main narrative, while remakes revisit the series’ history. This approach keeps the franchise relevant for both new and veteran players.
