IO Interactive has announced a further delay for the port of its upcoming title, 007 First Light. The release window has been pushed from the previously stated Summer 2026 target to late summer. This adjustment comes as the development team works to optimize the game for the new hardware platform.

Hakan Abrak, the CEO of IO Interactive, confirmed that the game is already running on the Switch 2 prototype. However, the studio aims to ensure a high-quality launch before making it available to the public. Abrak stated they need additional time to refine the experience and make the port as good as possible.

The delay ensures that players receive a polished version of the game rather than a rushed release. Abrak emphasized that James Bond holds a special place in history, and the team is committed to honoring that legacy with a great product. The studio plans to do everything necessary to achieve this goal while serving as CEO.

This news follows reports from The Game Business and Insider Gaming regarding the shifting timeline for the handheld console launch. The sequel to 007 First Light will depend heavily on public reception and market conditions. Meanwhile, IO Interactive noted that their new fantasy RPG project, Project Fantasy, remains in healthy development.

IO Interactive has not confirmed a specific release date beyond the late summer window. The studio continues to focus on delivering a high-fidelity experience for the 2 platform.
