Fosi Audio is launching the MD3 MagDac, a magnetic external headphone amplifier designed for smartphones. The company announced the device on May 25th, positioning it as a portable solution for users who prefer wired audio on their mobile phones.

Compact magnetic dock brings wired audio back to modern phones with dual jacks and display

The amplifier attaches to Qi2- or MagSafe-compatible smartphones using a magnetic ring on its aluminum chassis. This design allows the device to stick directly to the back of compatible phones, such as the Apple iPhone 17. The unit measures 70 by 45 by 12 millimeters and weighs 50 grams.

The front of the MD3 features a round display that shows animated widgets and volume settings. The device includes both a 3.5 mm and a balanced 4.4 mm headphone jack on its bottom edge. An integrated amplifier uses four ESS ES9603Q chips and an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC to process audio up to 32-bit at 384 kHz. The amplifier delivers 80 mW through the 3.5 mm port and 180 mW through the balanced connection.

Rumors point to a global price of around $150 for the MD3 MagDac. The manufacturer has not yet officially confirmed the final pricing. The device is scheduled for launch on May 25th.
