Socket 0.6.0 update adds Android app support to the 3D carousel, introduces a zoom slider for 3D models, and fixes Retroarch sleep mode crashes.

HANDHELD GAMING

Socket released version 0.6.0 of its Android emulation frontend, adding support for Android apps in the 3D carousel view. This update matters because it expands the platform beyond traditional emulator libraries, allowing users to browse a wider range of content through the same tactile interface. Users with handheld devices running Android can now integrate these apps directly into their game selection workflow.

Android apps now appear in the 3D carousel with new zoom controls

The update introduces a zoom slider in the Edit Platform, which lets users adjust the displayed 3D model's zoom level. This change gives creators more control over how their custom platforms look within the application. The frontend continues to focus on mimicking the physical experience of rummaging through a handheld cover to find a game.

  • Version: 0.6.0
  • Platform: Android
  • New Feature: Android apps available in the 3D carousel
  • New Feature: Zoom slider in Edit Platform
  • Fix: Fixed PlayStation button layout

Socket fixed several stability and configuration issues in this release. The developer resolved Retroarch crashes that occurred when the device entered sleep mode. The team also corrected the PlayStation button layout configuration to ensure proper input mapping. Additionally, the image picker now updates cartridge labels correctly after changes.

The patch includes backend fixes for Patreon supporter duration counting and sorting on the Thanks screen. These adjustments improve the accuracy of supporter recognition within the app. We looked at the last Socket update earlier while tracking handheld emulation trends, and several of the same balance and stability themes came up in this release.
