Apple updated its Magic Keyboard lineup with a subtle cosmetic change that affects typing visibility. Apple replaces text labels with symbols on several keys, a cosmetic change that alters the visual appearance of the Tab, Caps Lock, Shift, Return, and Delete keys. This update touches four specific models while leaving others untouched. The updated models feature glyphs instead of text labels on specific keys, while the layout and functionality remain unchanged from previous USB-C versions.

The affected devices include the standard Magic Keyboard, the version with Touch ID, and two full-size models with numeric keypads. Apple kept the pricing structure identical to the USB-C versions released in October 2024. The standard model costs $99, while the Touch ID variant is $149. Full-size models with numeric keypads start at $179 for the white version and $199 for the black one.

Specifications

  • Standard Magic Keyboard: $99
  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID: $149
  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad (White): $179
  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad (Black): $199
  • Connectivity: USB-C

Several keys now display glyphs instead of text. The Tab, Caps Lock, Shift, Return, and Delete keys on all models use symbols. The full-size models with numeric keypads extend this change to the Home, Page Up, Page Down, End, Clear, and Enter keys. The connectivity remains USB-C across the board. The layout and functionality stay the same as the previous generation.

The Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad without Touch ID did not receive this update. Apple also did not add backlighting to any of the updated models. The feature remains absent from the entire Magic Keyboard line. The Magic Keyboard lineup continues to lack backlighting, a feature that remains absent from the updated models. The update focuses solely on the visual design of the key labels.

This cosmetic refresh keeps the Magic Keyboard lineup consistent with its recent USB-C transition. The prices and core features remain unchanged. The shift to glyphs is the only visible difference. Buyers can expect the same typing experience with slightly different key markings.
