Blizzard has announced adjustments to the Overwatch 10th anniversary event to address player frustration regarding reward pacing. Game Director Aaron Keller acknowledged that community reactions to the initial rollout were fair and justified. The developer is implementing immediate changes to the reward structure for the second and third weeks of the celebration.

Developer increases community loot boxes and reduces win requirements for anniversary rewards

The updated plan increases the frequency of community loot boxes. Rewards will double during the second week and triple during the third week. Blizzard also reduced the total number of games required to earn all 15 anniversary loot boxes to 60 wins. Wins now count as double toward this total. All players will receive a special ten-year anniversary loot box in week three. This box contains four guaranteed legendary skins.

Keller stated that the current event is a one-off but promised continued content throughout the year. An additional season-long event is planned for Season 3. Reports indicate that the Chinese anniversary event offers more generous rewards. This regional version reportedly includes mythic skins and older cosmetics not available in the global event. The global event does not include these specific items.

The adjustments come as the franchise marks a decade since its original release. Blizzard aims to deliver more consistent value to the player base moving forward. The company has not confirmed the specific launch window for the upcoming Season 3 event.
