The town of Van Horn in Red Dead Redemption 2 finally feels like a working frontier settlement thanks to a new community modification. Players who previously encountered a hollow port with broken infrastructure can now explore a fully realized environment that adds depth to the game world. This update transforms a minor map location into a bustling hub with new activities and visual details that were missing from the base release.

Fan project adds ships, workers, and new buildings to the northern port

The modification, titled 'Van Horn Fan Expansion,' is a free fan-made project developed for Rockstar Games' title. It targets the northern port town of Van Horn, which players often pass through but rarely stop at in the standard game. The mod aims to fill the narrative and visual gaps left by the original developers by adding permanent structures and interactive elements.

The expansion introduces a ship graveyard on the northern edge of town, featuring sunken vessels and scattered debris to suggest a history of maritime activity. Builders have restored the broken docks and added new ships, boathouses, and rideable boats for player use. The area now includes dock workers, a fisherman, and a market stall that populate the waterfront with life.

Beyond the docks, the mod adds a church and graveyard atop the hill overlooking the town, providing a new landmark for exploration. The Train Station has been updated with additional non-player characters to create a more crowded atmosphere. New businesses such as a wagon fence, a fruit merchant, and a dock house with a functional boat fence appear on the southern outskirts.

The mod requires the '!PNA.asi' file from the 'Project New Austin 1907' modification to function correctly. Users must install this prerequisite to ensure the new assets load properly in the game engine. The expansion is available for download as a free resource for the community, offering a detailed look at what the town could have offered in the base game.
