Former Rockstar Games employees are asking fans to buy and play Grand Theft Auto 6 instead of boycotting it. This unusual stance comes from workers who were fired last year in what they describe as union-busting. The call to action highlights a conflict between labor rights and the desire to support the creative team that built the game.

Fired workers seek justice while supporting the final product

The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) is leading the effort to seek justice for the fired staff members. These employees claim Rockstar terminated over 30 workers in October of last year to undermine union organizing efforts. The union argues that the terminations were unlawful and are pursuing legal remedies to hold the developer accountable.

A final trial against Rockstar is scheduled for September to determine the legality of the firings. To support the legal case and the affected workers, the union is selling ethically made T-shirts with proceeds going toward legal fees. This financial model allows fans to contribute directly to the workers' cause without refusing to engage with the product.

The union's message urges consumers to win justice for the people who helped make the game rather than punishing the project. This approach separates the labor dispute from the final product, aiming to protect the developers' livelihoods while fighting for fair treatment. The stance contrasts with typical industry reactions where labor disputes often lead to public boycotts of the associated software.
