Microsoft's Project Positron is a rumored disc-to-digital entitlement program for Xbox, allowing physical disc owners to convert games to digital licenses for the all-digital Helix console.

Microsoft is reportedly developing a program called Project Positron that would let Xbox owners convert their physical game discs into digital licenses. The codename has been spotted in Xbox Insider builds, suggesting internal testing is underway.

The rumored system is designed to work with Project Helix, an all-digital Xbox console. Under the proposed model, users could either connect a USB Blu-ray drive to read discs or perform a one-time permanent transfer that invalidates the physical disc. This would allow existing disc collections to be used on a disc-free console.

Microsoft previously proposed a similar disc-to-digital conversion model for the Xbox One in 2013 but abandoned the plan after backlash. Project Positron appears to revisit that concept for a future all-digital ecosystem.

Windows Central and journalist Jez Corden have reported on the rumor, though Corden has been careful to frame Positron as a potential program rather than a confirmed one. Microsoft has not officially acknowledged the project.
