Bungie has announced that Marathon Season 2: Nightfall will launch on June 2. The developer plans to fully reveal the new season during a showcase event scheduled for the week of May 25. This update introduces significant changes to the game's progression systems and map pool.
Night Marsh Zone map introduces darkness mechanics to gameplay
The season features a full server wipe that resets weapons, gear, currency, player levels, and faction reputation. Players will retain their achievements, cosmetics, permanent titles, and non-seasonal Codex progression. A new customization system called The Cradle allows players to shape Runner shell strengths and weaknesses. Faction progression speed also increases with this update.
A new map named Night Marsh Zone joins the rotation. This nighttime version of the Dire Marsh map focuses on darkness mechanics. End-of-season events begin on May 19 and guarantee specific match events. The endgame Cryo Archive map becomes available daily from May 21 until June 2. Cryo Archive Ranked runs from May 24 to May 28 with exclusive rewards.
The announcement marks a major shift in Marathon's seasonal structure with the introduction of The Cradle system. This customization tool adds a layer of strategic depth to character building. The full server wipe ensures a fresh start for all participants while preserving long-term cosmetic and achievement progress.
Bungie has not confirmed the launch window for future seasons beyond the current Nightfall update.
