GAME PERFORMANCE

Although we haven't seen The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom yet on personal computers, thanks to a modder, that's no longer the case. The reason why this is important is because, this may potentially give PC users a way to play a game that's only available on the Switch console. In essence, it proves that the code for the game could work on desktop PCs, even if it isn't officially supported.

Modder NotRexed recompiled the Switch title for Windows and expects to finish the port within a month

Thanks to a modder named NotRexed, he's managed to recompile the game for the PC and has given us a glimpse of what he's managed to accomplish so far. This modder is currently a solo developer on this project and wants to make it as polished as possible, not something that's just a quick fix. NotRexed's ultimate goal with this is to make a high-quality port that maintains the integrity of the original game, while being playable on the Windows platform.

So far, in some performance tests, NotRexed was able to get a frame rate of between 32 and 59 FPS on a 4060 Ti. What this means in essence is that the game is playable on mid-range hardware at least, but it's not yet consistent in hitting 60 FPS. NotRexed pointed out that he's only really put in 2-3 days worth of work on this porting project. This accounts for the varying frame rates right now.

The modder estimates that the total time it will take to get this port completed will be about 2 weeks to a month. NotRexed also said he's not afraid of 's lawyers, as he recognizes how aggressive they are with their IP protection. So far, Nintendo hasn't sued him yet for doing this, so it's a bit of a gray area when it comes to fan made modifications like this.

Once this port is in a stable and playable condition, the modder will be making it public. As for PC gamers who want to play this, it'll be something they'll have to wait for NotRexed to officially release it before they'll be able to play it on their PCs. Until then, it's not available for PC in any official capacity.
