Ubisoft is facing criticism regarding its workforce size and development output after recent layoffs. Daniel Vávra, co-founder of Warhorse Studios, highlighted that the publisher retains 16,600 employees following these reductions. He compared this remaining headcount to approximately seventy studios the size of his own Warhorse.

Developer criticizes publisher workforce efficiency amid restructuring efforts

Vávra argued that Ubisoft currently possesses enough staff to develop ten AAA games equivalent in scale to Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 each year. His calculation assumes a seven-year development cycle for each title, which would result in one annual release. The comment underscores a perceived gap between the publisher's massive workforce and its recent commercial performance.

Ubisoft is navigating significant financial challenges as it undergoes restructuring amid record losses of 1.3 billion euros for the fiscal year. Despite these struggles, the company expects a strong recovery in the coming years based on internal projections that remain unverified by current financial results. The publisher plans to launch Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on July 9 as part of its strategy to rebuild momentum.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed ongoing development for two new Far Cry titles and several upcoming Assassin's Creed projects. These commitments aim to stabilize the company after a period marked by high-profile delays and financial strain. The industry continues to watch how Ubisoft manages its large workforce while attempting to deliver consistent quality across its major franchises.
