Developer SG4S takes their sci-fi horror game Wane's off Steam. The title will now be free to grab. This is the end of the ongoing development for the game which was cursed with fundamental issues.
Developer SG4S abandons broken sci-fi horror title after patch fails to fix core mechanics
Anyone can now grab the game but be warned, it will be broken. SG4S removing their title shows the difficulties surrounding the release of a game with critical core problems.
Wane's is a Five Nights at Freddy's clone of sorts. It is sci-fi horror centered but lacks proper gameplay loops. SG4S admits that many core gameplay mechanics don't work. They have tried to fix the problems extensively.
They patched the game recently to fix some technical issues like interacting with objects and freeze bug. But according to the developer, the current build is not playable. Now, users can get the game for free.
It's limited profile features. It's the last patch they put before removing it from the store.
SG4S explained that the main reason for shutting down the game was a lack of interest. According to them, they couldn't fix the problems. Despite their efforts.
This decision is similar to some past moves from the same developer. For example, the removal of Incremental game Sattelite. We followed this release too as we kept an eye on SG4S launches. The game is downloadable but not supported now.
So, this is it. Wane's is off the Steam store. The commercial phase of the game's life is over.
If you wish to check out the idea of the game you can get the free version. There will be no new patches or fixes. It's a done deal and this confirms the state of the game. It's a finished but broken game.
