ANDROID

VWFNDR has released a free camera application for Android smartphones called VWFNDR + MBL. The app focuses on providing users with control over image capture and verification of photo authenticity.

The free application offers minimal JPEG processing and semi-automatic exposure modes for main rear cameras only.

The software supports the recording of 8-bit JPEG files with minimal image processing or 16-bit DNG RAW files. It includes encrypted content credentials that allow users to verify the authenticity of a photo retrospectively and trace editing steps. The user interface features a large shutter button and controls for shutter speed, sensor light sensitivity, and exposure compensation. Users can adjust the position of these buttons within the app. The software also supports manual focus and semi-automatic modes that combine manual shutter speed with auto ISO.

The modular UI allows users to adjust control positions.

The application is limited to using only the main rear camera on a smartphone. It does not support the selfie camera or auxiliary lenses such as ultra-wide-angle or telephoto options. VWFNDR + MBL is available for free download in the Google Play Store. The developer states that neither in-app purchases nor subscriptions are required to access all features.

The release of this tool highlights a growing focus on photo authenticity and transparency within mobile photography software.
