Ubisoft announced on May 3, 2026, that the multiplayer shooter XDefiant will shut down its servers in 2025. The title has been inactive since that date, leaving a gap in the publisher's current portfolio.

Game remains inactive since 2025 shutdown

Former XDefiant leader Mark Rubin recently addressed fan requests to restore the game. He acknowledged that players miss the experience and stated that reviving the servers is entirely up to Ubisoft. Rubin noted that the company has many other projects to manage while staying afloat.

The decision to bring XDefiant back rests with Ubisoft, according to Rubin. He did not confirm any plans to revive the game. Fans on social media have expressed strong desire for the servers to return, citing the high quality of the gameplay.

Ubisoft is currently focusing its development resources on other major titles. These projects include Assassin's Creed Hexe, Beyond Good and Evil 2, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. The studio has not indicated that XDefiant is a priority for immediate restoration.

Insider Gaming reported on Rubin's comments regarding the potential return of the shooter. The former lead developer emphasized that while he supports the idea, the final choice lies with the publisher.
