CD Projekt RED has put out a patch 5.01b for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remaster. This patch is especially important for Xbox Series S players who are looking for enhanced visuals and performance. CD Projekt RED has made changes to the upscaling technology used in the game to accommodate certain hardware limitations on the lower powered Xbox console. The purpose of these changes is to make the picture clearer while preserving frame rate on Xbox Series S.
Patch 5.01b replaces TAAU with AMD FSR to improve visuals on Xbox Series S
The remaster works on Microsoft consoles. It is made specifically for Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. The patch doesn't bring any new features or changes in gameplay. Instead, it comes with technical improvements. Players on the particular consoles will notice the differences in how the game is rendered on different resolutions.
One big technical upgrade is that TAAU upscaling technology, which was used previously, is replaced by AMD FSR. CD Projekt RED specified that the reason behind the change is that it should improve picture quality and affect performance in a positive way on Xbox Series S. According to them, the new upscaler creates a better trade-off between visual quality and speed for the particular hardware.
Patch 5.01b can be downloaded for Xbox Series X consoles as well. However, there are no actual changes to the game in this patch. CD Projekt RED explained that it's because of the peculiarities of the way patches are delivered for Series X platform. The company made it clear that although the patch file is available for Series X users, the patch itself does not change any code in the game.
We wrote about the previous update to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remaster. Here we noticed some similar themes of balance and stability. The latest patch specifically targets upscaling fix for Series S only.
Series X version of the game remains untouched. The patch confirms that the developer is fine-tuning remaster for particular console architectures.
