TCL China Star targets 700Hz refresh rates for OLED gaming monitors using inkjet- printed technology, with production starting in 2028.

TCL China Star is working towards breaking gaming display limits by launching OLED monitor panels that can achieve 700Hz refresh rates. For PC gamers, this is important as it suggests that future high end monitors may have better motion clarity and responsiveness. TCL's vision for high speed is to achieve this with inkjet printed OLED. Which may allow these high end displays to become more affordable in the future.

TCL China Star plans inkjet-printed OLED panels for 32 and 34-inch gaming displays with 700Hz refresh rates

These are panels that will be produced in the new TCL Gen 8.6 OLED factory in Guangzhou, China. Their Guangzhou factory will be geared towards manufacturing inkjet printed OLED panels. Inkjet printed OLED uses a printing method to apply the organic materials to the glass substrate. Compared to traditional OLED using vacuum evaporation, inkjet printing is aiming for a more efficient use of materials and lower production costs for larger format displays.

Specifications

  • Technology: Inkjet-printed OLED (IJP OLED)
  • Target Refresh Rate: 700Hz
  • Panel Sizes: 32-inch and 34-inch
  • Production Start: 2028

TCL is targeting to release these high speed panels in 32" and 34" sizes. The intended refresh rate of 700Hz exceeds what is currently available on monitors. However, it is unclear which resolutions these panels will support for the maxed out speed. We don't know yet if they support 4K or 1440p or other resolutions at the higher end of the speed spectrum.

The start of production is set for 2028, but it's important to note this is when production is starting, not when they are available to consumers. For reference, they previously shipped 27" 4K 120Hz IJP OLED panels for MSI (end 2026). So you can see that they've got experience with inkjet printed OLED with their previously announced 27" 4K 120Hz panels. Start of production is set for 2028, though it's still unclear when these will be available to the public.

TCL China Star is focusing on the next generation of displays with their inkjet printed OLED manufacturing in Guangzhou. 700Hz refresh rate is the targeted spec for their upcoming OLED monitor panels. The actual specs for the final products and pricing at retail is still unknown. We're looking at 2028 for production.
