Take-Two Interactive has ordered the shutdown of Rage:MP, a major multiplayer modding platform for Grand Theft Auto V. The company’s enforcement action targets community-run servers that operate outside its official licensing terms.
GTA V multiplayer modders must migrate to FiveM by August 2026 following Take-Two enforcement action.
Rage:MP allowed players to host custom game modes and role-playing experiences on dedicated servers. Take-Two now requires all GTA V multiplayer modifications to run exclusively through FiveM, which holds the sole authorization under the Platform License Agreement.
The shutdown follows a structured timeline rather than an immediate cutoff. Public access to the Rage:MP server toolkit has already been discontinued, preventing new server deployments or code updates from being distributed to community hosts.
Server owners who wish to continue operating GTA V multiplayer experiences must migrate their setups to FiveM. Take-Two and Rockstar Games have emphasized that FiveM is the only compliant platform for modding activities moving forward.
The transition period extends until August 31, 2026, by which date all community servers associated with Rage:MP will cease operations entirely. Hosts have until August 31, 2026, to adjust their systems and meet the new licensing terms set by Take-Two Interactive.
Take-Two’s statement highlighted the community-driven nature of Rage:MP while reinforcing corporate control over modding ecosystems. The company noted that developers invested significant effort into building the platform, but emphasized that multiplayer growth must align with official licensing frameworks.
This closure aligns with a wider pattern in the gaming industry where developers increase control over community-driven multiplayer services. The directive mandates that only FiveM may host GTA V multiplayer mods, as specified in the Platform License Agreement between Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive.
