Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced that Subnautica 2 will enter early access in 2026. The studio has outlined a post-launch roadmap that may include new biomes, creatures, equipment, and story chapters.

Leaked document confirms planned content

A leaked development document, confirmed authentic by Krafton, listed planned content for the game. The document mentioned 1-3 story chapters, two regions, seven main points of interest, 8-12 creatures, 1-3 leviathans, four characters, 14-20 or more tools and equipment, two types of vehicles, two adaptation systems, two submersibles, five biomods, mining and automation, a farming system, survival mode, creative mode, single-player and co-op modes, cross-progression, and online account integration.

Community feedback collected via Nolt includes suggestions for advanced cooking, proximity chat, natural moonpools, healing item use time, water turbidity, new pets, a colorblind slider, procedural skin patterns, plants, a leviathan aquarium, VR support, increased fear factor, multiplayer mini-games, post-end game content, and creature reactions to weather.

The timeline for the leaked content has likely changed significantly due to the delay, according to Insider Gaming. Unknown Worlds Entertainment has not confirmed the final launch window or which features will make it into the early access release.
