SpaceX has released the Starlink V5 terminal, a new satellite dish that prioritizes efficiency and compactness over raw speed. The reduced size facilitates installation in confined areas, and the lower power consumption makes the terminal suitable for off-grid or solar-powered applications. Users prioritizing a lightweight and energy-efficient connection may find this model more suitable than the previous generation.
New terminal offers 35-50W draw and 2.4lb weight for off-grid use
The V5 terminal replaces the larger V4 dish with a significantly smaller footprint. It measures 12.05 x 15.12 inches and weighs just 2.4 pounds. This weight reduction of over half compared to the V4 simplifies mounting on roofs or portable structures. The device maintains the same 110-degree field of view and IP67 Type 4 weather resistance as its predecessor.

Power consumption is the most notable improvement in the V5 design. The terminal draws an average of 35 to 50 watts, which cuts energy use by 50% compared to the V4's 75 to 100 watts. This efficiency gain is paired with a new, smaller Router Mini included in the package. The hardware also features improved wind resistance, handling speeds of 99 mph or more, up from the 60 mph limit of the V4.
Performance metrics show a slight trade-off for the reduced size and power. SpaceX rates the V5 peak download speed at 375 Mbps, which is lower than the V4's 400+ Mbps rating. Real-world speeds currently hover around a 220 Mbps median according to company data. The terminal is not intended for in-motion use, and Starlink warns against using it while traveling. A monthly rental fee applies to the device.
