Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC has settled a class-action lawsuit for $7,850,000 regarding the PlayStation Store. The settlement resolves claims filed in 2023 that accused Sony of monopolizing the digital game market. This legal resolution covers digital games purchased through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023.

The lawsuit alleged that Sony violated federal antitrust law by restricting third-party games on its platform. Plaintiffs claimed this restriction caused consumers to pay more for certain digital games than they otherwise would have paid. The Northern District of California recently approved a preliminary settlement against the company.

The $7,850,000 USD (about $7,850,000) figure includes attorney fees and reimbursement of costs. It also incorporates service awards totaling $30,000 for class members. The settlement covers digital games that were previously available via voucher during the specified period.

PR Newswire reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC allegedly unlawfully eliminated competition in the market for Sony digital games. Insider Gaming noted the defendant violated federal antitrust law and certain state laws. The controversy centers on the PlayStation Store Digital Games storefront and its impact on consumer pricing.
