Sonic co-creator Yuji Naka originally wanted to name Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg as Giant Eggs, but Sega of America rejected it due to US slang. He then proposed Giant Cock.

Sonic co-creator Yuji Naka originally wanted to call the 2003 game Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg by a very different name. He proposed 'Giant Eggs' as the title. Sega of America rejected that name because the phrase 'to lay a big egg' means to fail in the US.

Former Sega America VP recalls the anecdote

Naka then suggested 'Giant Cock' as an alternative. The name referenced the rooster suit the main character wears. Former Sega of America VP Mike Fischer recalled the anecdote in an interview with Sega-16.

Fischer said Naka asked: 'Well, I know another name for the boy wearing a rooster suit. Another name for rooster is cock. Can we call the game Giant Cock in English?' The suggestion was not adopted.

The game ultimately launched as Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg on the GameCube. It was developed by Sega and directed by Yuji Naka. The title has remained unchanged since release.
