Sega is releasing a high-priced collectible that targets serious collectors rather than casual fans. The $7,000 Sonic the Hedgehog porcelain figure stands out because it combines a major gaming IP with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. This release marks a shift in how the company celebrates its 35th anniversary by focusing on artisanal value over mass production. The $7,000 price point positions this item as a luxury collectible rather than affordable merchandise, appealing primarily to dedicated enthusiasts.
Sega releases a limited-edition Sonic the Hedgehog porcelain figure
The product is titled "Infinite Blue" and features the iconic character in a standing pose. Sega created this item to honor the character's long history in video games. The figure is not a standard plastic toy but a piece of decorative art. The figure combines the Sonic the Hedgehog character with traditional Arita ware porcelain techniques.
The figure measures 8.4 inches high, 6.1 inches wide, and 9 inches deep. Sega limited the production run to just 50 units worldwide. The blue coloring comes from gosu pigment, a traditional material used in Arita ware. The development process took approximately eight months to complete the hand-painted details.
International customers can enter an online lottery to purchase a unit. The application window for this lottery runs from October 9 to October 18. Five additional units are available through a different method at a Tokyo exhibition. These five pieces are offered on a first-come, first-served basis at Ikebukuro Parco from October 9 to November 1.
Sega is producing only 50 units of this figure to celebrate the character's 35th anniversary. The product features hand-painted details using traditional gosu pigment on a porcelain figure of the gaming character. Collectors can secure a piece of gaming history through the lottery or the Tokyo exhibition.
