Housemarque and Sony Interactive Entertainment released Saros for the in 2026. The title serves as a spiritual successor to the studio's previous roguelike hit. Early sales data suggests the game experienced a slower launch than expected despite the massive install base of the PS5 console.

Housemarque roguelike shows strong retention despite slower launch

Analytics firm Alinea estimates that Saros sold over 300,000 copies in its first two weeks. This volume generated more than $22 million in revenue. The development budget for the project stands at approximately $76 million. The game targets a dedicated audience rather than casual players.

Retention metrics indicate strong engagement among those who purchased the title. Forty percent of buyers played for over 15 hours. Thirty percent continued for more than 20 hours. Over 20 percent of players completed the game, which is double the completion rate of Returnal at the same stage. Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics described this as impressive engagement for a difficult roguelike.

The game launched in a crowded market alongside major releases like Crimson Desert and Hades 2. Sales figures trail behind the launch performance of Returnal. This disparity exists even though the PS5 install base grew from 8 million to 93 million units since the predecessor's release. VGC awarded the game a five-star review, praising its bold design and gameplay improvements.
