The RPCS3 development team has announced new contribution guidelines to address a surge in low-quality code submissions generated by artificial intelligence. The project, which began in 2011 and supports nearly the entire PlayStation 3 library on modern PC hardware, is taking strict measures to protect the integrity of its open-source codebase.

The developers stated that these submissions waste maintainer time and can break functionality for all users when merged. The updated policy requires contributors to understand every line of code they submit and take full ownership of the changes. The team announced they will begin banning users who submit AI-generated pull requests without disclosing their use of such tools. While using AI for research or reverse-engineering remains permitted, the project prohibits AI from generating comments or pull request text.
The RPCS3 team expressed frustration with the current state of contributions, stating that they are blocking users who engage in online arguments about the policy. They urged individuals to learn how to debug and code properly instead of generating code they do not understand. The developers described the unchecked AI submissions as wasting time and peddling slop that offers no value to the community.
