Riot Games has released a patch preview for League of Legends that addresses the viability of alternative champion builds. The company is responding to player attempts to create non-standard playstyles, such as Ability Power Ezreal and on-hit Teemo.
Lead Gameplay Designer Matt Phroxzon Leung-Harrison provided commentary on these experimental strategies. He noted that builds like Ability Power Ezreal may be too weak to be effective in the current game environment.

The developer also evaluated other non-standard options during the preview. The preview indicated that while Ability Power Xin Zhao offers sustain, it is outclassed by dedicated champions like Warwick.
This analysis highlights the gap between player experimentation and developer balance goals. The company continues to monitor how alternative builds perform against established meta choices.
