Realme has halted new smartphone development in China to redirect resources toward global expansion. This strategic pivot matters to buyers because it signals a shift in where new devices will launch and how the brand allocates engineering talent. Consumers in China may see a slowdown in domestic releases, while users in other regions could expect a more aggressive product rollout.

Oppo unifies software platforms and restructures brand focus
The move is part of a broader restructuring by parent company Oppo to streamline its portfolio of sister brands. Oppo is reorganizing Realme and OnePlus to reduce internal overlap and clarify market focus for each division. This consolidation aims to create a more efficient operational structure across the company's smartphone and software divisions.
A key component of this restructuring involves unifying the software experience across Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus devices. The company is merging Android skins ColorOS, OxygenOS, and realme UI into a single platform centered on ColorOS. Eligible devices from both Realme and OnePlus will have the option to update to this unified ColorOS interface, standardizing the user experience.
Within this new structure, OnePlus will concentrate its efforts on the China and India markets. The brand is pausing new releases in Europe and North America to align with this regional focus. Meanwhile, Realme will prioritize global markets outside of China, including regions in Europe, North America, and India, to drive growth in those territories.
