The Pokémon Company and Aardman have released the first footage of their upcoming stop-motion series, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. This announcement gives fans a concrete look at the visual style and narrative direction of the project before its scheduled 2027 release. Viewers interested in the franchise’s expansion into new media formats will see how the studio adapts its characters for a different medium.

Stop-motion series set in Galar region debuts at Annecy festival

The new series features Sirfetch’d, Pichu, and Fletchling as its main characters. The story is set in the Galar region, a location in the Pokémon world that mirrors the United Kingdom. Aardman Animations, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, is handling the production.

The initial footage debuted at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The clip was presented during a panel titled Lights, Camera, Aardman!. Phil Rynda, the director of original animation at The Pokémon Company International, spoke about the collaboration. He highlighted the studio’s commitment to quality storytelling and respect for the audience.

Rynda stated that the project offers a unique chance to tell stories from the perspective of the Pokémon themselves. He credited Aardman’s artistry and affection for the characters as key elements of the production. The series aims to blend the familiar world of Pokémon with Aardman’s distinctive stop-motion craft.
