Kinetic Games released a major update for the co-op horror title Phasmophobia on July 21. This patch changes how players interact with maps and ghosts, which directly impacts the daily loop for anyone hunting paranormal activity. The update arrives as patch 1.000.042 and brings significant visual and mechanical shifts to the experience.

New ghost type and visual overhaul arrive in July 21 update

The centerpiece of this release is the rework of the 13 Willow Street map. The development team applied a full visual overhaul to the location while keeping the original room layout intact. Players will encounter new assets and repurposed spaces that change the atmosphere without altering the core navigation paths.

The 13 Willow Street map receives a full visual overhaul in the latest update.

A new ghost type called the Deildegast joins the roster of paranormal entities. Kinetic Games programmed increased spawn rates for this ghost during the first few weeks after launch. PC players also gain new keybinds that allow them to switch equipment using number keys one through four. These controls let users inspect the Watch at any time without navigating complex menus.

The update includes substantial fixes for virtual reality players and general gameplay flow. Developers improved VR character animations and equipment visibility to reduce immersion-breaking glitches. Ghost AI behaviors for the Kormos, Phantom, and Raiju received adjustments to correct previous inconsistencies. Faster journal animations and instant VR character rotation make evidence gathering more responsive during investigations.
