Party Animals AI Video Contest Cancelled After Community Backlash

Recreate Games has officially cancelled the AI video contest for Party Animals. The studio announced the decision on May 19 following a community poll that delivered a clear verdict against the event. The cancellation addresses widespread player dissatisfaction with the Golden Paw Awards.

Golden Paw Awards removed following decisive player feedback survey

The community vote resulted in 57.3% of participants choosing to cancel the contest entirely. Another 34.6% preferred changing the event to a non-AI competition, while 8.1% wanted to keep AI but add a separate human category. The studio acknowledged that the contest design was insufficiently conceived and inadequately thought through.

The Golden Paw Awards caused the game's Steam rating to drop from Very Positive to Mostly Negative in under 24 hours. Contest rules required generative AI to serve as the core creative tool across images, video, music, voiceovers, and 3D assets. The studio admitted that community communication surrounding the event was not up to par.

Recreate Games faces significant backlash after attempting to integrate AI into a player-driven contest. The rapid rating decline demonstrates how quickly community sentiment can shift when players perceive creative tools as replacing human effort. The cancellation marks a direct response to this feedback.
