Nintendo is raising subscription costs for Nintendo Switch Online in Japan, effective July 1. This price adjustment impacts all existing tier options, including the basic individual and family plans as well as the expansion packs. Buyers in Japan will face higher recurring fees for accessing online multiplayer and classic game libraries. The change reflects a broader shift in regional pricing strategy for the service.

The affected service covers the core Nintendo Switch Online ecosystem. The service provides online multiplayer, cloud save backup, and access to a library of classic games. The price increase affects standard individual subscriptions as well as family plans that support up to eight users. Expansion Pack tiers, which include additional classic consoles and downloadable content, also experience higher costs.
The new rates for the 12-month individual plan rise from 2,400 YEN (around $14.85) to 3,000 YEN (around $18.56). The 12-month family plan increases from 4,500 YEN (around $27.85) to 5,800 YEN (around $35.89). Subscription costs for the Expansion Pack also go up. The 12-month individual Expansion Pack moves from 4,900 YEN (around $30.32) to 5,900 YEN (around $36.51). The family tier for the Expansion Pack jumps from 8,900 YEN (around $55.07) to 9,900 YEN (around $61.26). Short-term individual plans also see increases, with the one-month option rising from 306 YEN (around $1.89) to 400 YEN (around $2.48) and the three-month option moving from 815 YEN (around $5.04) to 1,000 YEN (around $6.19).
These adjustments likely stem from the weakening yen, which has pressured Nintendo to align Japanese pricing more closely with US costs. The company has not yet confirmed whether other regions will implement similar increases. Pricing in other regions remains unchanged for now. Subscribers will need to renew their memberships at the new rates after the July 1 effective date.
