GungHo Online Entertainment is shifting the Ninjala franchise from competitive multiplayer to a cooperative open-world experience with the announcement of Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet. This genre change introduces crafting and cooking systems, offering players a new type of gameplay that differs significantly from the original title. The developer revealed these details as part of its upcoming presence at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles.
GungHo reveals genre shift and demo plans for Los Angeles convention
The studio will showcase the new game at the Los Angeles Convention Center during the event, which runs from July 2 to July 5, 2026. Visitors can expect to play the title firsthand at booth #2316, where GungHo will display merchandise and host promotional activities. This hands-on access allows attendees to experience the cooperative mechanics before any public release.
Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet replaces the previous player-versus-player focus with a cooperative open-world action structure. The game features integrated crafting and cooking systems that allow players to gather resources and prepare items within the game world. These mechanics form the core of the new gameplay loop, emphasizing exploration and teamwork over direct combat competition.
GungHo plans to distribute promotional items to those who participate in the demo sessions at the convention. Participants will receive an inflatable bat modeled after the IPPON Katana from the original game. The booth will also feature a giveaway that includes a Nintendo Switch 2 console, highlighting the platform focus for this new entry in the series.
