Hackintosh builders can finally run modern Nvidia graphics cards on Apple’s operating system, a shift that removes a major barrier for users who need professional GPU acceleration on macOS. NullMoth released a new driver on October 7, 2025, that enables hardware-accelerated desktop rendering for a wide range of Nvidia GPUs. This release addresses a gap in previous solutions that failed to support newer architectures, which previously left users with outdated performance or no acceleration. Users utilizing Nvidia graphics cards for creative tasks or gaming on non-Apple hardware now have a functional method for achieving full system integration.
NullMoth release adds Metal 3 and Vulkan support to Hackintosh systems
The driver targets macOS 15 Sequoia and explicitly excludes Apple Silicon Macs, which already support their native GPUs. It supports the GeForce GTX 16 series, RTX 20, 30, 40, and 50 series, as well as the Titan RTX and corresponding workstation cards. The developer tested the driver on a GeForce RTX 5060 under macOS 15.7 and 15.8.1 to verify stability. The supported hardware list includes most modern consumer and professional Nvidia graphics cards currently available.
Under the hood, the driver uses a translation pipeline that converts Apple’s intermediate shader code into SPIR-V format. It then passes this data to NVK, the open-source Vulkan driver from the Mesa project, to handle the actual graphics rendering. This architecture enables support for Metal 3 features, including ray tracing, mesh shaders, and MetalFX upscaling. The driver also provides compatibility with OpenCL and Core ML for machine learning and compute tasks.
Installation requires users to disable System Integrity Protection and Secure Boot, which are standard security features on macOS. The source code is available for review, but the license explicitly prohibits commercial use. Users report that the RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 also work, though the developer has not officially verified these specific models. The driver excludes any claim of support for the upcoming macOS 26 Tahoe, focusing strictly on the Sequoia release line.
The first version launched on October 7, 2025, followed quickly by version 1.1.0 just a day and a half later. The quick release of subsequent versions indicates active development and a prompt response to initial user feedback. We have been tracking Nvidia GeForce RTX closely and noted earlier that the RTX 5070 claims top spot in recent hardware surveys. This driver update provides the necessary software foundation to utilize those popular cards on Hackintosh systems.
