A fan project called 2Unreal5Underground is remaking Need for Speed Underground 2 in Unreal Engine 5. A new gameplay video shows improved features including AI traffic, free-roaming opponents, and Outrun races.

New gameplay video reveals AI traffic and revised physics

The driving physics have been revised with new suspension and better jump control. The project is approximately 75% complete. Planned features include a full career mode, an open world Bayview, multiplayer, co-op, and expanded tuning.

A free demo is available now via the project's Discord server.

Need for Speed Underground 2 is widely considered one of the most deserving entries in the series for a remake. However, it remains to be seen whether Electronic Arts will tolerate the free fan project in the long run.
