SOFTWARE AND UPDATES

Motorola has fixed a software bug in its Smart Feed app that caused Amazon Shopping app launches to be redirected through a browser with affiliate tracking links. The company says the issue was unintended and resulted from an error in routing configuration. Users on affected devices will no longer experience these detours when opening shopping apps.

Motorola corrected the underlying routing configuration to restore direct app launches.

The problem occurred within Motorola's Smart Feed application, which serves as a launcher for various installed applications. When users tapped on Amazon Shopping or similar retail apps, the system incorrectly routed them through a web browser instead of launching the app directly. This routing error inserted affiliate codes into the URLs before the target application opened.

Motorola corrected the underlying routing configuration to restore direct app launches. The fix ensures that installed applications now open as intended without any intermediary steps or affiliate tracking. Users on devices like the Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 should see this behavior resolved after updating their software.

The company has not disclosed the root cause of why the bug occurred, only describing it as an issue with "app search and recommendations." The vague explanation leaves questions about how affiliate codes were inadvertently inserted into the routing process. Motorola's statement confirms the behavior was unintended but does not detail the technical flaw that allowed it.

The event demonstrates an unusual software flaw in which a preinstalled application disrupted the startup of external apps. Although the update resolves the issue, Motorola has not fully explained why the error occurred. Users can expect their shopping apps to launch directly without any further detours or affiliate interference.
