MNT has launched the MNT Station, a new open-source mini PC enclosure designed for users who want to upgrade their hardware without replacing the entire case. This modular approach lets buyers swap out the core computing components as technology advances, which protects your investment against obsolescence. You can start with a basic setup and add more power later by simply inserting a different module into the aluminum shell.

Modular design lets users swap compute sticks to avoid obsolescence

The system centers on the MNT Reform Mainboard 3.0, which connects to the enclosure via a 200-pin processor module interface. This design allows the mainboard to function as a swappable compute stick rather than a fixed soldered component. The enclosure itself is built from CNC milled anodized aluminum and measures 28 by 13.3 by 2.6 cm, providing a compact footprint for desktop or VESA mounting.

MNT offers three distinct compute module options to suit different performance needs and budgets. The Raspberry Pi CM4 module with 8 GB of RAM is the most affordable entry point at $160. The NXP LS1028A module provides 16 GB of RAM for $675, while the high-performance Rockchip RK3588 V2 module tops out at 32 GB of RAM for $899. The MNT Reform Mainboard 3.0 itself is sold separately for $429.

The MNT Station enclosure is priced at $299 USD (around $299). The crowdfunding campaign for the project is currently live on CrowdSupply and will conclude on September 25, 2024. We do not yet have confirmed shipping dates for backers, as the source only specifies the funding end date.
