The update enables achievement functionality across a wide range of retro gaming systems. Supported platforms include the NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Neo Geo, PC Engine, and Atari 2600. The system maps DDRAM mirror regions and computes MD5 hashes to verify game integrity against the RetroAchievements database.
Technical implementation relies on the rcheevos library to poll achievement conditions every frame at approximately 60Hz. When an achievement triggers, the system displays OSD notifications and automatically reports the unlock to the RetroAchievements server. The update also introduces offline detection with automatic reconnection capabilities. Players can press a key during gameplay to view an overlay listing all available achievements for the current game.
This development marks a notable step for the MiSTer community in standardizing retro gaming features. The MiSTer Project continues to expand the capabilities of its FPGA-based hardware through community-driven software updates. The integration allows users to track progress and compete on leaderboards for classic titles that previously lacked such systems.
