Owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux get a free upgrade to current-generation consoles on October 29. This update brings modern hardware support to the classic survival-horror titles without requiring a full purchase. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles can now experience true 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. The update also supports upscaled 4K at 120 frames per second for smoother gameplay.

Free update brings 4K textures and 120fps support to PS5 and Xbox Series consoles

4A Games and Deep Silver released the update to thank players for their long-term support. The studio describes the changes as improvements and enhancements for modern hardware rather than a complete remaster. Console versions add 4K textures, improved animation, and higher-quality audio. PC owners receive a free Next-Gen Update on October 22, five days before the console launch.

  • PS5/PS5 Pro Resolution/FPS: True 4K at 60fps; Upscaled 4K at 120fps
  • PS5 Pro Enhancement: PSSR support
  • Enhancement: TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing
  • PC Enhancement: support
  • Controller Features: Adaptive Triggers (DualSense), Impulse Triggers (Xbox)

The update leverages platform-specific upscaling technologies to boost performance. PS5 Pro versions utilize PSSR support for enhanced image quality. Xbox Series X versions implement TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing. PC versions support DLSS for rendering efficiency. These features allow the games to maintain high frame rates while delivering sharper visuals.

Controller features also receive attention in this release. DualSense controllers on PlayStation support Adaptive Triggers for haptic feedback. Xbox controllers receive Impulse Triggers for vibration effects. Xbox platforms additionally support Spatial Audio for immersive sound. Owners of PS4 or Xbox One versions receive a free upgrade to these next-gen versions.

We covered the last Metro Redux update, where several of the same balance and stability themes came up. This new release expands that foundation to current-generation hardware. The update is available globally for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players can download the free update on their respective platforms starting October 22 for PC and October 29 for consoles.
