EA officially revealed the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the next Mass Effect game Mass Effect Universe. This marks the end of a big IP in the sci-fi RPG space that's spanned more than 20 years. All those fans of the series will only see the death of a game, rather than the birth of it.

BioWare spent six years on the canceled project before EA pulled the plug

It's a real shame they cancelled a game that's apparently been in the early stages of development for around 6 years. Even EA themselves said it was in the early stages of development when they finally pulled the trigger on it. That just shows how much time they sunk into it before pulling the plug.

Well now a 2 minute cinematic trailer for the cancelled game has leaked online. It doesn't look like finished game-play, more like an in-engine concept video. There's a difference because concepts never look as good as actual game-play.

These days with AI generated media, there's some doubt over the authenticity of this leak. Someone points out that it looks real, not AI generated. But the same person warns to not be so trusting, as this is what generative AI can do now.

This leaked footage is the first look into what EA's creative vision was for the next Mass Effect game. It's a piece of history of a game that will never see the light of day. Now we can look back at all the concepts they scrapped before the game ever launched.
