Riot Games is introducing a distinct server environment for League of Legends that strips away years of accumulated changes. This mode offers players a return to the game's earlier state, appealing to those who prefer the original mechanics over modern complexity. It provides a clear alternative for veterans seeking a simpler competitive experience without the clutter of recent updates.

Riot Games introduces legacy mechanics and a limited champion pool

The new Classic mode launches as a separate server within the League of Legends ecosystem. It operates independently from the standard Summoner's Rift experience, allowing players to toggle between the two environments. This separation ensures that the legacy rules do not interfere with the main game's progression systems.

Players entering this mode will find a roster limited to 60 playable champions. The visual experience relies on Classic Skins and introduces new Classic chromas for customization. Gameplay mechanics revert to the old Runes and Masteries systems, removing the modern rune pages that have defined the game for over a decade.

This update targets a specific segment of the player base interested in historical gameplay integrity. It does not replace the current version of the game but exists alongside it as a niche option. Players can choose to engage with the legacy mode when they want to test their skills against a simpler rule set.
