A Best Buy affiliate email has suggested that Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will open on May 18. However, several insiders have cast doubt on that date. Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming said on a recent podcast that he does not expect anything tangible until July or August. He noted that his prediction is not based on new information.
Henderson expects no news until summer
Henderson believes that a Rockstar update is likely ahead of the Take-Two Interactive earnings call on May 21. But the company may simply reaffirm the release date and ask fans to stay tuned. Leaker billbil-kun said he had "Nothing interesting for now" to report about the Best Buy leak. Another trusted leaker, NateTheHate, has also not indicated that pre-orders or a new trailer are imminent.
Henderson expects the marketing campaign for GTA 6 to be short and high-impact. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has hinted that the game's development is on track and that advertising efforts would step up soon. The Best Buy pre-order report alone led to a surge in the publisher's stock.
Rockstar Games has not confirmed the May 18 pre-order date or any trailer release window. The source of the leak is a Best Buy affiliate email, which could have been sent prematurely. Henderson's July or August prediction for trailer #3 remains speculative.
