HMD has launched a new flip phone aimed at the seniors. The basic device comes with a controversial AI subscription service. The new flip phone is catered towards senior people. And what do those people need? Easy communication. Except HMD's new offering also has a digital companion subscription service. So how does this change the landscape of the feature phone game? Well, by introducing a subscription service, something that doesn't usually come with a feature phone, which usually cost a pittance.
HMD launches £79.99 flip phone with mandatory AI subscription for elderly users
The HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition will be operating on the S30+ OS. It also has an AI companion called 'Mary'. The service is a collaboration between HMD and inTouch. And the idea is that 'Mary' provides conversation and storytelling options. The hardware is mostly aimed at seniors, with large buttons and a hardy build. But how does the software work? Well, it'll require a subscription after a certain trial period.
