Rockstar Games confirms GTA 6 players can seamlessly switch between Jason and Lucia. The game launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Rockstar Games is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, marking the first time players can control a female protagonist in a mainline entry. This release shifts the franchise's narrative structure by introducing a Bonnie and Clyde-style dynamic between the two leads. Players who own or /S consoles can experience this new open-world setting called Leonida.

Rockstar details Bonnie and Clyde dynamic for November 19 launch

The game features Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as playable characters who switch seamlessly during missions and activities. Lucia stands out as the first fully developed female lead in the series, with her body changing based on diet, exercise, and sleep habits. The open world reacts to player actions, such as carrying weapons, creating a more realistic environment for these characters.

  • Release Date: November 19
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
  • Setting: Leonida (Vice City based on Miami)
  • Protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos

Rockstar has more than doubled its development team since Red Dead Redemption 2 to support this expanded scope. The studio hired over 50 real street artists to create in-game murals that reflect the diverse culture of Leonida. Jamie-Lee Lloyd, senior art director for characters, stated that new tools enabled the creation of the most detailed and varied character population in the franchise's history.

Lloyd explained that authenticity comes from how characters move, interact, and express themselves, not just their appearance. In-game social media feeds are functional and serve as satirical commentary on the world. These systems bring together collaboration across multiple teams to ensure the population feels authentic and dynamic.

The extended gameplay look will air on Netflix at 3pm ET/12 pm PT/3 am HKT, providing the first official look at the game's mechanics. This event precedes the global November 19 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players can expect a detailed and varied world that reacts to their choices from day one.
