Sony Interactive Entertainment has not released Ghost of Yotei on PC, yet the title is already running on Windows through an unofficial emulator. This development matters because it reveals the technical hurdles facing any potential official port of the PS5 exclusive. The game remains a console-only experience, but the emulator work provides a preview of what a PC version might look like.
Emulator struggles with severe CPU bottlenecks and unplayable frame rates
The project relies on AnyPS5, a tool designed to automatically port PS5 executables to Linux and Windows. Sucker Punch Productions developed the game, which is now being tested in a non-official environment. The emulator attempts to translate the console code for a different operating system without direct support from the developer.
Performance metrics from user Celegans12 show the game struggling significantly under this emulation. The system recreates approximately 16,600 textures every frame and rebuilds an image table with 16,386 entries. These operations contribute to a severe bottleneck that limits the frame rate to approximately 3.4 frames per minute. Each frame takes about 17 to 18 seconds to render.
The primary performance issue stems from the CPU driver, which spends approximately 17.6 seconds per frame on resource binding. While the 3D scene renders, the slow frame rate makes the experience unplayable for most users. Loading times have improved compared to previous emulator attempts, taking about 7 minutes instead of the previous 13 minutes. This improvement suggests progress in the emulation layer, though the core rendering issues remain unresolved.
