Microsoft’s upcoming shooter Gears of War: E-Day has already moved 120,000 copies on Steam, according to analyst estimates. This early momentum signals strong demand for the franchise’s new prequel, though the title still trails major competitors like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Buyers tracking industry trends should note that these figures represent a solid foundation for a new entry in a long-running series.

Microsoft earns over $7 million from early Steam sales
The game launches globally on October 6, with pre-order editions of the collector’s and expanded versions available to play starting October 1. Microsoft will include the full release in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from day one. This access model allows subscribers to jump into the story campaign immediately upon the official launch date.
Analysts at Alinea Analytics estimate that these pre-sales generated more than $7 million in revenue for Microsoft. The figures cover the period leading up to the end of September. These numbers provide a concrete baseline for the game’s commercial performance before the wider market opens.
Current sales lag behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which reached approximately 450,000 copies at a similar stage. The game also trails Wardogs, which hit around 567,000 copies. However, Gears of War: E-Day outperforms Halo: Campaign Evolved by more than two times at this point in the release cycle.
The game follows the last Gears of War: E-Day update, where balance and stability themes were prominent. Microsoft continues to refine the experience before the October 6 release. Players can expect a polished launch with immediate access through subscription services.
